Blepharoplasty, or eyelid lift, is a very common procedure used to remove fat, excess skin, and sometimes muscle from the upper and lower eyelids. It is performed to correct drooping upper eyelids, as well as to correct the puffy bags below the lower eyelids. While blepharoplasty can be performed at any age, typically, patients in their thirties and older are candidates. Blepharoplasty can be done alone, or in conjunction with other facial surgery procedures such as facelift or brow lift. The upper eyelid blepharoplasty is often done with a brow lift because in many cases the brow itself is weighting down the upper eyelids.

Recovery time is typically a few days, and all sutures are usually removed by five days of surgery. Bruising, if any, is minimal, and swelling is usually minor and lasts two to three weeks.
